The challenge of this project was creating a professional digital signage solution that could be displayed on a television screen at Durham College. Research was needed not only into the college brand itself, but also into advertising brands such as Booster Juice, Popeyes, Tim Hortons, and Subway. All of this had to come together through strong design and animation decisions to create a polished, cohesive, and professional final experience overall.
Project Overview
This digital signage project, based on Durham College branding, is a multilayered system that combines GSAP animation, motion graphics, responsive CSS positioning, and dynamic database-driven content. Using PHP, MySQL, and phpMyAdmin, the system allows content such as news, advertisements, ticker tape information, and weather icons to be updated easily, creating a flexible and professional signage experience suited for a public environment.
Process
The initial process of the digital signage project began with rough sketches to define the overall layout and key design elements. These ideas were then developed into an Illustrator comp, where the logo pane, weather pane, five weather icons, news pane, and ticker tape pane were visually designed and prepared for production. From there, development moved forward in stages, beginning with the logo pane and GSAP motion graphic advertisement pane, followed by the news and ticker sections, then the weather pane, and finally the YouTube pane to complete the full signage system and overall structure.

Deliverable Overview
The final deliverable presents a complete and professionally designed digital signage system. Every pane was developed with care, from the timing of the animations to the visual design of each section. Five additional weather icons were created beyond the original comp stage and update based on the current day through the next five-day range. The news and ticker panes also pull content from the database, controlled through an admin.php file for easy updates. Combined with the branded animated advertisements, all panes work together to create a very polished signage experience suited for Durham College.
